About
After gaining experience working on a variety of large and small projects in Canberra, London and Brisbane I opened my sole practice in Byron Bay in 1997. Since then I have designed many residential, commercial and institutional projects on both urban and rural sites on the NSW North Coast and elsewhere.
My approach to design focuses on people and place. My intention is to create memorable places which inspire, engage and nurture the people living and working within them.
The people are my clients. I design for my clients and my aim is to provide a personal service to help create a solution which reflects their individual character and needs.
The design process is an interactive one in which my client and I communicate ideas, combine energies and explore possibilities. This involves engaging them in a creative collaboration – listening to their ideas, desires, issues and challenges and interpreting and translating these into creative, cost effective solutions they will cherish and enjoy for years to come.
The place is the building site and the region in which it sits. I use a site specific approach involving analysis of land forms, winter sunlight, cooling breezes, existing foliage, neighbouring sites, dominant views and features of the site.
My designs are also informed by the experience of many years enjoying the relaxed nature of North Coast contemporary living, our sub tropical land and climate.
The resulting forms and spaces respond to these features, using simple, elegant design solutions and innovative approaches to spatial layout, with careful attention to details, materials, lighting, thermal comfort and privacy.
I am committed to the principles of Ecologically Sustainable Development through energy and water efficient design.
